  1. Introductions and Distributions

    • Cast and crew introduce themselves.

    • Stage management distributes all materials to cast.

    • Dramaturge distributes the actor packets which includes the glossary and an introduction document with information on the plot, writers, development, contextual history, and critical and audience responses.

      • Tour the website, showing the cast and crew where to access information.

      • Challenge: Players must move Pippin through the plot via manipulation.

        • I will set up an obstacle course for Pippin (my cat.) The cast must convince Pippin to move through all stages of the obstacle course without touching him until the Grand Finale. They are limited to 1 treat!

          • Stage 1: Pippin returns from school looking for fulfillment. Catch his attention with teasers.

          • Stage 2: Convince Pippin to go to war with the Visigoths (mice.)

          • Stage 3: Berthe convinces Pippin to have a little hanky-panky. Make him sit at a kissing booth for people to give him kisses and snuggles.

          • Stage 4: It’s time that Pippin tries out politics. Either get him to scratch his throne or sit on it long enough to get a picture.

          • Stage 5: Pray with Pippin for the life of Otto the duck.

          • Stage 6: Take Pippin to the fire pit and take a photograph of him about to perform the grand finale!

        • This objectives exercise will help the actors enter the world of the play, in which the Players’ main objective is to manipulate Pippin into killing himself.
