RITUAL THEATRE
Why tells stories?
While research about different types of ritual theatre could be helpful in understanding Act 3, this production decided that the opposite would be the most helpful. Since the survivors of the play are average people, I put together and spread around a survey to correlate what the average person knows about ritual theatre. This information would be the spring board for what knowledge would travel throughout the 82 years of Mr. Burns. In simpler terms, the people of Act 3 can only know the theatre history that those in Act 1 know, and will likely lose most of that knowledge… unless someone happens to locate theatre textbooks and really wants to replicate ritual theatre. However, because the members of Act 3 are rewriting their origin story, it seems unlikely that their style of theatre would be anything other than a creation specific to their time and what they have directly inherited. Below you can see results from the survey that I formulated into word clouds by taking all of the results and calculating what words were used most often to answer the questions.
